The term is racing to an end. It has been a long one. Heading into winter with dark beginnings and ends to the school day can make us turn inwards.
However, most of us will be following the stories of suffering around the world in recent months and weeks, forcing us to look beyond our immediate surroundings.
For some of us there will be personal connections to what is being shown on our TV screens and in the newspapers. The students we teach together with their families may be deeply affected by events happening many miles away. It is important we acknowledge what is happening around us even if we are unable to do very much about it directly. By carrying on doing the best we can for the children, young people, and the families we work with, will in a way make a difference. Even the simplest things can change someone’s day. Kindness and connection can have a profound effect.
With the holidays approaching, this may be just the time to check in on someone you have not contacted for a while, offer a smile as you walk down the street, or take a moment to ask how someone is and then take the time to listen to what they have to say.
Wishing you all a restful winter break
